Cambridge and Somerville Program for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Rehabilitation

CASPAR is a nonprofit organization founded in 1970 in response to the need for community-based services for those affected by substance use disorders.

Since then CASPAR has built a comprehensive array of outreach, shelter, stabilization, residential, aftercare, education, and prevention services to meet the needs of diverse populations through programs that are safe, accessible, and supportive.

We serve a diverse population of high risk men, women, children and adolescents, most of whom are uninsured and indigent.

Our philosophy is that saving a life today makes recovery possible tomorrow.

CASPAR’s mission is to:

  • support people wherever they may be on the substance use/abuse/recovery continuum to improve the quality of their lives.
  •  Maintain an integrated network of collaborations to coordinate client care
  •  Advocate for adequate resources to support a wide range of prevention, intervention, and treatment options
  • Advance the field by continuing to pioneer new approaches to client care
  • Reduce the harm associated with substance use and contribute to a healthier community

Even the most chronic substance abusing individuals in our community have experienced the miracle of recovery and now lead healthy and productive lifestyles as graduates of CASPAR programs. Many of them are our employees today.
